Welcome!

Hi and welcome to my blog, A Riding Habit! I'm an English rider that loves dressage and jumping and one day I hope to do competitive Grand Prix dressage and Working Equitation. My riding habit started close to twenty years ago, and hasn't stopped since!

I'm also a writer, a teller of stories and this blog is my place to share all the cool things I am learning about horses as I work with them. I'm a mother to three little ones, so the great challenge of my horsey habit definitely falls into the area of balancing my love for horses and life with my amazing family.

In the end though, the journey is as important as the final result - whether it's in ribbons or a stronger understanding of all things equine. So I hope you come along for the ride as I figure it out on the way.

All About The Horse

Copper is a 15.3hh bay gelding trotter OTSB - Off the Track Standardbred - that was bred in September 2000. His registered name is "Pain In", but his show name is much nicer - "Casablanca".

He had two starts, but didn't do so well as he never ended in the top three and only won $155.00. His racing spirit is not down for the count though, and even though he is a total sweetheart on the ground and under saddle, he is still not an easy ride because he's sensitive and loves to run!

We are currently tackling dressage and Copper really likes learning how to use his body, so it is fun to see him take that training on board.

He also enjoys scratches under his belly, rubs on his face after the bridle is taken off, liquorice, being told he's a "good boy", trail riding and bumming around the paddock with his mates. :D
